Back in 1985, a thirty-something California gal decided she'd had enough of life in downtown high-rises in San Francisco, and she moved to Spain, to the Costa del Sol, with $700 in her pocket and the promise of some kind of job - promises from friends met there two years earlier while on vacation. Spain had just agreed to enter what was then called the Common Market - the European Economic Community - and things were changing fast, or at least should have been, but since no Spaniard would ever give up the concept of siesta, everyone knew it would take more than five years for Spain to "adapt" to the new rules. And our unsuspecting heroine didn't know that the Costa del Sol was also "la Costa de los Locos" - the Coast of the Crazies! - full of oddballs and fruitcakes, loonies and miscreants, and a whole lot of wonderful, unique people from many countries as well as Spain. It needed a certain type of mind-set to live there - anything at all could happen, on a daily basis, sometimes an hourly basis, and the strangest things usually did happen, daily and/or hourly. "Never a dull moment" would be an apt description. This drove some people insane - in Spain - but quite a lot loved it. These are the stories of five years on La Costa, and all the Crazies who inhabited the place, and all the weird and wild events which took place. It's a love letter to Spain and an era that was passing into history, and to all the delightful people who just couldn't tow the line "back home", wherever that was, and came to Spain in search of adventure.

A delightful recollection of crazy and fun adventures embarked on while living on the coast of Spain. It's simply wild and full of colorful characters who reach right off the page and take you with them on one amazing journey. I could feel the love for these old friends in every page. I was sad when I finished the book, sad to have to leave the place and the people behind. I loved it!Product details

Insane in Spain eBook Carolyn Southard Reviews
I read the story of the Corsican and the French woman to Frankie. It was a perspective I could relate to. And we laughed. I could go for more.

I received an advance review copy of this breezy book. The author (who is also a painter) isn't out to describe moonlit beaches, architecture, buildings, or Spanish history -- Carolyn Sputhard is a chronicler of people and gossip. She goes around collecting personal anecdotes, and seemingly is laughing all the way. Southard is sharp, and her style like a friend calling you at midnight, after she's had a few drinks,

Vivid pictures of the experts and locals partying on the Costa del Sol during the wild 70s. A fun read, well written.
